Meet The Team5

We recently welcomed Kale Hocking to the Speller team as our newest Business Development Manager. He tells us what he’s looking forward to most about his role and what 2022 holds professionally and personally! Please join us in welcoming Kale to the team.

What is your role at Speller? What does an average day involve?

I am a Business Development Manager. My average day involves meeting with clients and companies to understand their businesses, including their SAP landscape, upcoming projects and their resourcing requirements now and into the future. This includes taking job briefs to understand specific skills gaps, pain points and what experience each business unit needs to ensure the success of their business objectives.  Having this detailed understanding assists the Speller team to find ideal candidates – and I also enjoy helping candidates on their journey of finding the next challenge in their career.

Tell us a bit about your professional background.

In 2021 I escaped lockdowns in Melbourne and headed back to New Zealand for almost 5 months. After a lot introflection and seeking a new challenge, I decided to change careers after working various roles for a medical defence organisation for 12 years, most recently as a Business Development Manager, managing four states. I wanted to learn new skills whilst leveraging my existing experience in business development and account management.

What are you enjoying about your role at Speller?

Meeting and getting to know the Speller team! Everyone is so supportive, and it is such a collaborative work environment - working together to ensure the best outcome for our candidates and clients and building me up to be successful in my new career and role.

Where do we find you in your downtime?

Usually doing anything active - either in the gym, on my bike, skiing, hiking, or travelling as much as possible. I enjoy immersing myself in a different culture and language - the goal is to live in Europe one day and learn Spanish. I love being at the beach, going to live music events or playing the Xbox.

What's your favourite part of Australia?

Most recently I have travelled to Queensland and the Sunshine coast several times where I did some surf lessons and hiking. I always feel at home anywhere by the water!

What does 2022 hold both professionally and personally for you?

The pandemic gave me a lot of perspective. I am making the most of every opportunity, learning new skills, meeting new people, trying new experiences and generally trying to push myself outside of my comfort zone.
