Springtime has rolled around once again and it’s the perfect time of year to spring clean our homes, but have you ever thought to spring clean your online professional presence? Specifically your LinkedIn profile?

More and more clients are using LinkedIn as a way of not only attracting talent but also to verify a potential candidate’s professional experience. This is often someone’s first impression of you so you would want to make it count. Here are a few tips to help spring clean your LinkedIn profile and help you secure your next dream job or just build upon your network and personal brand.

Profile & CV match

Firstly, make sure your LinkedIn profile matches your CV, little details such as dates, role title and descriptions should match. And make sure to add in all the SAP acronyms specific to your skills and experience so that you can be found by potential employers.

Profile picture

Your profile picture should be a professional shot. You wouldn’t turn up to an interview in a singlet with a beer in your hand so don’t use that image as your professional profile picture. Like we said earlier first impression count. Don’t forget to customise the banner on your profile page – this can help you stand out from the crowd.

Summary

Write a detailed summary which clearly outlines your career in a few paragraphs. Clients will want to see information on this summary such as years of SAP experience, modules you’ve worked on, number of full end to end projects you’ve been part of and also any certification and training you are currently doing, particularly across any of the newer SAP technology’s.

Be specific

Make sure your headline translates to what you do. Just writing “SAP Consultant” doesn’t make it clear what job roles you are qualified for. You want people to be able to clearly and easily identify who you are and what you do.

Update your jobs

Too often we see consultants, particularly contractors, fail to update their current job status. Ensure your position is current and when updating this, write a brief summary of what your role was and what you specifically did. And make sure you add the right company details in.

Be active

Remember that the more you put into your profile, the more you’ll get out. Join relevant groups and endorse the skills of others. What goes around, comes around!

So hopefully these few tips will help you Spring Clean your Linkedin profile and give you a better, more visible and relevant Linkedin profile for the SAP market.
