Work, and Making Melbourne Work for You

Melbourne

It is possible to see the sights and hit those KPIs at the same time, with a bit of lateral thinking about just how big your office can be.

Melbourne has been voted the world’s most liveable city for the seventh year in row, based on numerous criteria like stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.

For those of us fortunate to live in this beautiful city, this comes as no surprise.

We know already how amazing Melbourne is for its food and coffee culture. And that’s before you even get to its world class sporting events, live music and arts…. really, the list of things we love about this city goes on and on.

Today we’re going to look at how you can make the most of what Melbourne has to offer you whilst working here.

AVOID BORED-ROOM MEETINGS

Changing your surroundings is a good way to keep your staff engaged and interested in the topic at hand. So why not book a meeting space outside the office? There are a load of great hubs and function spaces available to use.

Here at Speller we’ve discovered a few great spaces around the city. The Crown Promenade Business Centre for instance has fantastic facilities, including small, medium and large meeting rooms, offering IT functions and lots of catering options.

Then there’s Middle Park Hotel, opposite Albert Park Lake. Just south of the CBD, it offers a great space for either internal or external meetings.

Got people flying in from overseas or interstate and short on time? Try one of the airport hotels. The Mantra in Tullamarine for instance has modern and convenient rooms perfect for those FIFO conferences.

WALK AND WORK
Let’s face it. Sometimes sitting at your desk or in the break room is the last place to be if you need to get real work done.

After all, when you need to think through a problem or come up with a new idea, listening to your work colleagues talk about their night out or discuss the latest episode of Married at First Sight is the last thing you need.

How about taking a walk around one of Melbourne’s many beautiful parks and gardens, instead? Keep the following places in mind for when you next need a break or brainstorming session:

– Flagstaff Gardens
– Carlton Gardens
– The Royal Botanical Gardens
– Birrarung Marr
– The Albert Park Lake
– Princes Park
– Fawkner Park

PRODUCTIVE LUNCH
Melbourne has some of the best restaurants in the world and we’re very lucky to have so much choice on our doorstep.

Whether you need to impress your guests or ensure your lunchtime is the most productive and efficient use of your time, try some the following options:

Pastuso in ACDC lane has a great ‘feed me’ menu, so you and your guests don’t even need to think about the food. They also have quieter areas for when you need to talk serious business.
The Mayfair is located in the forecourt of Sofitel Melbourne, offering creative cocktails in a lux location.
Touché Hombre a fun Mexican restaurant off Lonsdale street has great lunch specials
Royce Hotel has a fantastic 2-course lunch special. Why not bundle it up and utilise their conference facility and lunch special for your next in-house board meeting?

Try and think outside the box when it comes to your next meeting or brainstorming session. Take a walk, have a nice meal with the team and see the sights of Melbourne… after all, you never know what will inspire your next big idea!
