sap industry wrap up

Speller International hosted our first SAP Industry event on Wednesday March 27th where we had three guest speakers share their experiences, key learnings, changes and challenges they face as consultants going from an ECC6 to SAP S/4HANA environment.

We heard from Jason Forsyth, SAP S/4 HANA SCM Solution Architect, Surendhar Sooriyakumar, SAP S/4 FICO Functional Lead, and Gary Mason, SAP S/4 Technical Lead. With over 30 SAP professionals in attendance, there was no doubt everyone walked away with a lot of information and useful tips to help them on their own SAP S/4HANA journey.

Here are some of our key takeaways from the session.

1. It’s up to you to upskill yourself. Read and do your own research on SAP S/4HANA with the abundance of free material, tutorials and website out there. Here are a few of the suggestion:

  • SAP.COM
  • SAP.COM
  • SAP Best Practices
  • Fiori apps library
  • SAP Learning Hub
  • SAP Partner Edge, SAP JAM
  • YouTube has many free tutorials

2. Get Business buy-in early and don’t just re-implement ECC on SAP S/4 HANA

3. Functionality will not always work instantly ‘out of the box’. Be prepared for this, particularly with the standard Fiori Apps – try testing them at the start of the project to ensure they are relevant and do work.

4. Integration is key! Consider all of your applications, both new and legacy. Define an Integration Strategy early on and remember that even though product such as Ariba, SuccessFactors and Fieldglass are SAP owned, don’t make the mistake of thinking they come fully integrated.

5. Competing Projects! Although SAP transformations are large – they may not be the only project happening for the customer. So remember to take other projects into account. You don’t want to find out you need to wait on them before you can deliver.

These are our top five key points, however there are many other things to take into account. Consider technical readiness, functionality, and of course the impact on the business before you embark on what will definitely be an exciting journey to SAP S4 or upskilling yourself to confidently work on S4 projects.

Thanks again to the presenters and all in attendance. We look forward to our next session.

This is the first of a series of information and networking sessions that Speller International will be hosting. We welcome any feedback and ideas you may have or would like to hear about in the future.

Great Initiative, Glad to be part of the session. As speakers enlightened SAP’s 4th biggest revolution is S/4 HANA and we need to adopt ourselves for the change.
