Why the Festive Break is the Perfect Time to Upskill

The year is coming to a close, yet with the world of SAP constantly changing it’s important to stay up to date across new technologies even in the down time. The festive break is a great time to brush up those skills with this ever evolving market. So here’s a few key pointers if you want to give your career a kick start for the new year.

Show initiative

Being able to add to your skills and stay up to date with the newest SAP trends can make you more attractive to future employers. However, this type of thinking will also impress your current employer and prove that you have the initiative to keep your skills relevant for the future. It’s all about creating opportunities for yourself.

Where to begin

So where do you start? As we all know the future is in the cloud, and with the looming 2025 deadline companies are starting to prepare their infrastructure for the S/4HANA migration. SAP’s Cloud based software has gained a lot of traction this year, so if you’re yet to gain exposure it’s an excellent time to do it.

If you’re unsure of how to get your upskilling off the ground, here’s an overview of what’s been the most popular skills in this space for 2018. Don’t worry, they are expected to continue to grow throughout 2019, so your upskilling won’t be wasted.

What if your company is behind the times?

So your current work environment hasn’t implemented this software yet? And, you’re told “on the job” learning isn’t possible? Never fear. Online learning is the next best thing in order to gain exposure without taking time away from your workday. An excellent resource for gaining certification in these areas is the SAP training website.

This offers both instructor and self-led training in these areas. Although these courses do come at a cost, if the training is relevant to your current role it is worth asking your employer if it’s something they can cover the cost of. If not, then most of the time these courses can be tax deductible.

Working in the SAP market means that upskilling is essential in order to remain competitive in this ever-changing landscape. You’ll be able to increase your opportunities for the future and add value to yourself as an employee. So take the time out this Christmas break with a glass of egg nog and a bunch of those terrible Santa lollies and upskill yourself. It may just be the competitive edge you need to become a sort after employee.
