Working long hours, five days a week can be draining. It can take a lot of effort to drag yourself out of bed and into the office day after day when you’re not feeling motivated. And although you may really enjoy what you do, even the most enthusiastic employee can fall out of love with their SAP job. So what can you do to reignite that spark? Here are five ways to get out of that rut and fall in love with your job again.
Take a break
It may seem obvious but taking a break, or going on holiday can be just the thing you need to get back the motivation you’ve lost. But make sure you choose the right kind of break. A busy city might not be what you need if you work in a high paced environment. Try the tropical Island, cocktails at sunset (or all day) kinda vibe.
Taking up part-time study, or doing a short course can get your mind stirring and the enthusiasm back. It’s hard to keep motivated if you are in the same position for a long period of time, but if you can fill in gaps in your knowledge, or study related topics you may start to realise why you picked this occupation in the first place.
Ask for a challenge
Let’s face it, sometimes work can be monotonous. A great way to change things up is to ask your manager for a challenge. Challenging your skills or changing up your day can get your brain thinking in a different way. Instead of continuing repetitive daily skills that you have mastered, take on something new and exciting – even if it’s only for the short term.
Change your hours
It’s 2019. Let’s live a little, and nowadays most offices are accommodating. Ask if you can work 10am until 6pm instead of 9am until 5pm and go to the gym in the morning. Have a coffee in the café and read the paper instead of rushing into the office with a takeaway cup. Give yourself the time to relax before you start the day. If you change the structure of your day, you’ll feel like your life isn’t just work and sleep. It’s amazing what a small change can do.
Work from home
Not all workplaces allow you to do this but if you have one that is open to flexible workspace, ask to work from home one or two days a week. This can give you the opportunity to break away from the office stigma, the daily transport system, and it could be what you need to get your work mojo back on track.
There are many ways to fall in love with your job again – not just these! But give our five ways a try if you’re struggling to get out of the day-to-day rut and start to enjoy what you do. After all, you spend most of your days at work.
